Nearby Cities and Attractions

Willow Mill Campsite sits in the heart of central Wisconsin, putting you well within reach of small-town stops, a major capital city, and one of the Midwest’s most visited tourist corridors. Pardeeville, Madison, and Wisconsin Dells are all within an hour’s drive.

Madison, WI

About 45 minutes south, Madison offers a full day’s worth of options without much planning required. The Henry Vilas Zoo is free to the public year-round. The Capitol Square hosts one of the country’s largest outdoor farmers markets on Saturday mornings from late April through November. State Street runs from the Capitol to the UW–Madison campus and is lined with independent restaurants, bars, and shops. Olbrich Botanical Gardens and the lakeside trails along Monona and Mendota are definitely worth the stop for anyone who wants to get outside the city grid.

Wisconsin Dells, WI

About 30 miles northwest, Wisconsin Dells carries the title of Waterpark Capital of the World and backs it up with more than 20 indoor and outdoor waterparks. Beyond the parks, the original draw is still there — the Wisconsin River Dells boat tours run by Original Wisconsin Ducks give you a close look at the sandstone rock formations that put this stretch of river on the map in the first place. Tommy Bartlett’s ski show has run continuously since 1952.

Pardeeville, WI

Pardeeville is a small Columbia County town about ten minutes from camp. It’s best known for the annual Canoe Watercraft Race held each September on Swamp Angel Lake, drawing competitors from across the state. Day-to-day, it’s a practical stop for groceries, fuel, and a sit-down meal before heading back to the campground. The Columbia County Courthouse in nearby Portage is worth a look if you’re passing through with an eye for architecture.
